To provide a balance weight of an elevator capable of easily adding and removing an adjustable weight piece for total weight adjustment with a simple device constitution.

Cutout grooves 11 opened to a side surface along the longitudinal direction is provided in correspondence with through bolts 8 provided at upper and lower part of a frame body 1 in the adjustable weight piece 10 in an inclined position by stackingly loading main weight pieces from a lower part in the square shaped frame body. A first engagement groove 12 to fit to the one through bolt 8, bent in the longitudinal central direction of the weight piece from the deep side of the one cutout groove 11 and a second engagement groove 13 to fit to the other through bolt 8, extending in both longitudinal directions of the weight piece from the deep side of the other cutout groove 11 are provided. Consequently, the through bolts 8 are fitted to the first and second engagement grooves 12, 13 by fitting the through bolts 8 in the cutout grooves 11 of the adjustable weight piece 10 in the inclined position, and horizontally displacing.
