This ball screw 1 includes: a screw shaft 3 having a spiral screw shaft side track groove on the outer peripheral surface thereof; a nut 5 arranged on the outer peripheral side of the screw shaft 3 and having a nut side track groove opposite to the screw shaft side track groove in the inner peripheral surface thereof; a communication passage provided in the nut 5 to communicate both ends of a load rolling passage structured of the screw shaft side track groove and the nut side track groove with each other; and a plurality of balls housed in an endless ball circulating passage structured of the load rolling passage and the communication passage. The screw shaft 3 is formed into a tapered shape wherein the diameter thereof is gradually shrunken in one direction.
