To provide a ballot classifying method and a ballot classifying apparatus intended to raise the speed of ballot classification by reducing the frequency of stopping the conveyance of ballots during the process of ballot classification.
A ballot classifying method comprises a ballot reading step of reading entries on ballots, a matching storage selecting step of selecting a stacker that matches a read information item read from a ballot, for instance a stacker 101 out of a plurality of stackers 101 to 120, a storage state checking step of checking whether or not the stacker 101 is in a fully filled state indicating that the number of ballots stored therein has reached the upper limit of the storage capacity thereof, and a ballot conveying step of conveying, if the stacker 101 is in a fully filled state, ballots matching the read information item to a reserve stacker 201 or conveying, if the stacker 101 is not in a fully filled state, ballots matching the read information item to the stacker 101.
