To provide a vertical band saw machine, which can precisely and satisfactorily cut off a hard workpiece without quickly wearing a band saw.

A pair of an upper wheel 9B and a lower wheel 9A is attached to a machine frame 1. An annular band saw 11 is wound on both wheels. In addition, a table 7 for setting a workpiece W is provided at the position facing a blade part 11A at an elevating or descending side of the band saw 11. Particularly, a cutting angle adjusting means 19 for tilting the blade part 11A of the band saw in the direction of the depth of cut toward the workpiece is provided. Accordingly, the blade part 11A of the band saw is set so as to make an angle of 80-89° with respect to the horizontal plane. In this configuration, coolant is showered to the cutting part C of the blade part 11A of the band saw for the workpiece while moving a table 7 toward the blade part 11A in the tilting state of the blade part 11A. As a result, the coolant is stored in the cutting part C and the cooling action and the lubricating action of the coolant can fully be shown.
