To provide a bar cutting machine which minimizes a remainder material, and also to provide a bar cutting method.

A control unit 74 for the bar cutting machine 10 comprises: a bar length measuring means 130 (S7) for measuring a remaining length of the bar 22; a remainder material length operating means 132 (S8) for arithmetically operating a remainder material length shorter than a predetermined cut length, based on the remaining length measured by the bar length measuring means 130; and a remainder material cutting control means 134 (S11, S12, S13) for conveying the bar 22 by the remainder material length calculated by the remainder material length operating means 132, and cutting the remainder material by the remainder material length. Thus, in the process of cutting of the bar 22, a bar piece having the remainder material length is cut away beforehand, and therefore the bar can be cut by the cutting length up to an end of the bar 22 except for a sufficient gripping allowance. In this manner, the bar cutting machine which minimizes the remainder material, and the bar cutting method using the bar cutting machine are provided.
