To provide a base cloth for ink ribbon having excellent outer appearance quality without wrinkle, yellowing or the like and an excellent ink ribbon made thereof.

This base cloth for ink ribbon is produced by scouring a textile fabric made of polyamide multifilament threads by a continuous scouring machine employing an open soaper and then heat-setting the fabric at a temperature ranging from 110-160°C. The ink ribbon is produced by cutting the base cloth in narrow breadth in such a fashion that the direction of warps forms the longitudinal direction of the ink ribbon and then bonding in its longitudinal direction into an endless ink ribbon.
