Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based metal working oil which shows high load withstanding performance though it is a water-based one and has excellent antifoaming properties and to provide a base lubricating material therefor.
SOLUTION: This base lubricating material comprises a salt of an ester obtained by reacting a hydroxy fatty acid compound comprising a hydroxy acid or a condensate thereof with 0.6-0.1mol, per mol of the hydroxy fatty acid units, dibasic acid having a molecular weight of 90-170 or an anhydride thereof, comprising units derived from the hydroxy fatty acid condensate and having a neutralization value of 200-45. A water-based metal working oil is prepared from this base lubricating material. The hydroxy fatty acids used include hydrogenated castor oil and castor oil fatty acid, and the dibasic acids or anhydrides thereof used are desirably maleic anhydride or succinic anhydride.
