Abstract:
To provide an base oil for a lubricant oil, which has excellent viscosity-temperature characteristic feature and excellent stability to heat and oxidation, and also allows the function of an additive incorporated therein to be exhibited at a high level.
The lubricant base oil satisfies at least one of the following conditions: (a) it contains saturated components in 95 mass% or over and 0.1-10 mass% of cyclic saturated components in the saturated components and (b) it satisfies the conditions shown by formula (1): 1.435≤n20-0.002×kv100≤1.450 wherein n20 represents a refraction index of the lubricant base oil at 20°C and kv100 represents a kinematic viscosity (mm2/s) of the lubricant base oil at 100°C.
