To provide base paper for a paper string, the paper string and a paper string net-like material having excellent environmental preserving properties, to provide the base paper for the paper string having excellent operation efficiency when twisted into the paper string and to provide the paper string having excellent operation efficiency when knitted into the paper string net-like material.

The base paper for the paper string consists essentially of vegetable fibers, contains a lubricant and preferably has 0.15-0.50 coefficient of static friction. The paper string is composed of the base paper for the paper string. The paper string net-like material is composed of the paper string.
