Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL: Elaiophylin derivatives represented by formula I [wherein R1 is H or a group of the formula: (CH2)n-R4 (wherein R4 is H or a 1-15C alkyl; a 2-15C alkenyl, phenyl or the like; and n is 1-3); R2 is H or a 1-4C alkyl; R3 is H or a group of formula II; and X is O or NH] and formulas III, IV and V.
EXAMPLE: 11-O-Methylsecoelaiophylin methyl ester.
USE: Anthelminthics.
PREPARATION: For example, elaiophylin represented by formula VI is suspended in an alcohol of the formula: HO-(CH2)n-R4 (e.g. methanol) and reacted in the presence of added anhydrous iron (III) chloride to form 11,11'-di-O- methylelaiophylin. This is reacted with an alkali metal alcoholate (e.g. sodium methylate) to obtain an elaiophylin derivative of the formula.
