To obtain a basic cloth having softness and bulkiness and excellent in hand tearing to direction of width by stratifying a polyolefin layer on at least one side of a textile composed of the weft of polyolefin flat yarn and the warp of polyolefin monofilaments.
This basic cloth for an adhesive tape is a textile stratified with a polyolefin layer having a thickness of 15-80 μm on at least one side of the textile wherein polyolefin flat yarn having a diameter of 50-150 deniel, a thickness of 10-60 μm and a stretch of 10-30% is used as the weft and polyolefin filaments having a diameter of 250-800 denier and a strength of not less than 10% are used as the warp, being composed of 30-60 weft/inch and 10-20 warp/inch. The polyolefin monofilaments to be used for the warp is foamed filaments which are foamed with foaming magnification of 1.1-5.0. As a polyolefin, high-density polyethylene and polypropylene are preferable, and low-density polyethylene, an ethylene-vinylacetate copolymer, ethylene-propylene copolymer and the like are used.
