PURPOSE: To provide a battery charger which can inform the operator of the charged state of a battery to be charged during the course of the charging of the battery.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of charging a secondary battery 17, a current detecting circuit 14 detects the value of the charging current of a secondary battery 17 in the initial stage of charging and a prescribed period of time after the commencement of the charging in accordance with a command from a microcomputer 16 and the microcomputer 16 discriminates the charged state of the battery 17 based on the detected value of the circuit 14. When the microcomputer 17 discriminates that the battery 17 is nearly fully charged, a display device 15 displays that the charging is nearly completed.
