Title:
BATTERY CHARGING ERROR CONNECTION PROTECTOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS55153228
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
The protection circuit, for a vehicle, detects when the battery has been connected with the wrong polarity by using a diode to shunt the series combination of the battery and an overcurrent circuit breaker. The circuit breaker disconnects the battery from the vehicle's generator and disconnects the starter motor from across the battery. A first set of loads, e.g. lights, is connected via a switch across the battery. A second set of loads, e.g. windscreen wipers, headlights etc., is connected via switches across the generator. A protective diode in series with protective relay may also be coupled in series with the vehicle's ignition switch across the battery in addition to the first diode. In this case both the circuit breaker and the protection relay's contacts disconnect the battery from the generator.
