To make possible to control the temperature of a battery to keep it below a maximum limit temperature even when the battery is quickly charged.
A battery cooling system for an electric vehicle has a coolant circulation circuit 10 in which a coolant, whose temperature increased after the coolant has cooled the battery 11 for driving the electric vehicle, is cooled by a radiator 12 and is circulated, and a cooling medium circulation circuit 30 comprising a refrigerating cycle having an evaporator 31 for cooling a vehicle room and a compressor 33. The cooling medium circulation circuit 30 is provide with a cooling medium bypass channel 37 through which a cooling medium bypasses the evaporator 31, and a cooling medium channel changing valve 38 for changing the channel of the cooling medium to either of the cooling medium bypass channel 37 or the evaporator 31. A heat exchanger is arranged on the cooling medium bypass channel in a position that is also on the coolant circulation circuit 10, the heat exchanger exchanging heat between the cooling medium flowing through the cooling medium bypass channel 37 and the coolant flowing through the coolant circulation circuit 10. When the battery 11 is quickly charged up, the coolant medium changing valve 38 changes the channel of the coolant medium to the side of the cooling medium bypass channel 37.
