PURPOSE: To well contact-hold a web W to a wire by installing a beam construction in the area of single-draw of the drying wire of a paper machine, etc., and generating a negative pressure.

CONSTITUTION: This beam construction comprises a closing-suction beam 20 which covers a drying wire 13 between drying cylinders 10, 11 and a leading cylinder 12. A web W locates on the opposite face of the wire 13. Transverse seals 27, 28 and side faces 25, 25a prevent the access of air into spaces 14, 15. A negative pressure is produced in the spaces 14, 15 and the inlet nip N between the leading cylinder 12 and the wire 13 through a bored hole 12C of the mantle 12b of the cylinder 12. The negative pressure is generated out of the negative pressure prevailing inside the mantle 12b of the leading cylinder 12. The web W is well contact-held to the drying wire 13 with the negative pressure.
