Title:
BEAM CONVERTER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS63247716
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To convert a luminous intensity distribution of a beam cross section to a round shape from that of an elliptical shape by a simple constitution, and also, with high accuracy, by constituting a converting part for reflecting parallel beams from a semiconductor laser, of two or more parallel reflecting surfaces.

CONSTITUTION: This device is constituted of a semiconductor laser 1, a collimator 3 for converting an output light 2 of this laser 1 to parallel beams 4, a converting part 20 for reflecting an output light of the collimator 3 and obtaining a prescribed luminous intensity distribution, and an objective lens 5. This converting part 20 is constituted of a light transmissive parallel plane plate having two or more parallel reflecting surfaces. In this converting part 20, a reflecting surface 21 and 22 exist. When a beam 4 of an elliptical luminous intensity distribution, which has passed through the laser 1 and the collimator 3 is made incident on the converting part 20, the same elliptical beam is reflected in both the reflecting surface 21 and the reflecting surface 22. However, when these reflected light beams and a reflected light by a multipath reflection are superposed, the luminous intensity distribution of its beam cross section comes near a round shape. In such a way, the luminous intensity distribution of the beam cross section can be converted to a round shape.
