To provide a bearing cooling device for a vertical axis type rotary electric machine with an easy maintenance and inspection.
The bearing cooling device 1 is provided with a cooler 11; an electromotive fan 12; and a lubricant circulation system 92. The cooler 11 is retained on an upper bracket 49 of a vertical axis type synchronizing generator 8 and the electromotive fan 12 is fixed to the cooler 11 at an inflow side of a cooling air 19. The cooler 11 is a liquid/gas type heat exchanger, the liquid is a lubricant 48 and the gas is the cooling air 19 fed by the electromotive fan 12. Accordingly, in the bearing cooling device 1, an installment of a water- cooling type heat-removal system as in a conventional device is not required. After the cooling air 19 eliminates heat from the cooler 11, it is taken from an opening 78 in the inside of the vertical axis type synchronizing generator 8 with a cooling air 89 and is also used for cooling the generator 8.
