Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize an adverse effect on a serration caused by contraction associated with caulking at a low cost without damaging an effective length of the serration along an axial direction.
SOLUTION: A caulking member 37 is formed in radial direction by plastically deforming an end portion of a hub flange 30 radially-outwardly and an inner flange 40, which is fitted on the periphery of the hub flange 30 is caused to be united with the hub flange 30. An outer joint member 72 of a uniform motion universal joint 70 is depressed into a bore of the hub flange 30 causing a serration shaft 82 of the outer joint member 72 to be engaged with a serration 81 located on a inner surface of the bore of the hub flange 30. A tooth profile of the serration 81 is maintained to fall within a predetermined standard L along the full length of the serration located on the inner surface of the bore of the hub flange 30 thereby minimizing the contraction of the serration 81 associated with caulking.
