To provide a bearing device for a wheel which makes bearing rigidity at a drive wheel side and at a driven wheel side identical, and reduces cost by standardizing parts.
In the bearing device for the wheel at the driven wheel side, a cone-shaped recessed part 14 is formed on the end of an outer side of a hub ring 4, and an inner ring 5 is axially fixed in such a state that a predetermined pressure is given on the bearing device in advance by a caulking part 7 formed by plastic deformation of the end of a small diameter step part 4b of the hub ring 4 outward in a radial direction. The size and number of rolling elements 3, a pitch circle diameter PCD, a rolling element pitch P, and an outward member 2 are set identically to those of the bearing device for the wheel at the drive wheel side. The shape of a wheel mounting flange 6 of the hub ring 4 is set to be substantially identical to that of the hub ring at the drive wheel side in which a serration for transmitting torque is internally formed. The amount of preload is set to be identical to that of the bearing device for the wheel at the drive wheel side in a vehicle mounting state.
