To exhaust residual air in viscous fluid in a housing while preventing pressure drop in the housing due to the rotation of a shaft relative to the housing.
This bearing unit comprises a radial bearing 33 for supporting the shaft 31 in its axial direction, a thrust bearing 46 for supporting the shaft 31 in its thrusting direction, a passage forming member 34 provided outside the radial bearing and the thrust bearing, the housing 37 formed by sealing the passage forming member to be stored and having a shaft through-hole 41 through which the shaft is inserted, viscous fluid 42 filled in the housing, and a communication passage 50 formed between the passage forming member and the radial bearing for communicating one end with the other end in the thrusting direction of the shaft protruded from the radial bearing. The communication passage 50 has a passage 51a formed on the peripheral face of the radial bearing in the axial direction and a passage 53a formed on the face at the other end of the radial bearing and having a cross section area greater than that of the passage formed on the peripheral face.
