To provide a bed having a backrest capable of raising, which enables to prevent user's body from slipping forward, to keep the spine straight in preferable posture for the body, and to provide comfortableness for the user when a backrest is raised.

The bed 10 or 20 having a backrest capable of raising is provided with a backrest member 17 for supporting at least the back, which is pivoted to a base 16 so as to be brought up or down. A back contact member 38 is arranged in a retreat position 41, in which the bed surface in a part corresponding to the back of the user is kept approximately flat in a longitudinal direction of the backrest member 17. An interlocking means 19 is provided so that the back contact member 38 is protruded from the retreat position 41 in conjunction with raising operation of the backrest member 17 so as to straighten the spine, and that the back contact member 38 is retreated in the retreat position in conjunction with fall-down operation of the backrest member.
