Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL: A benzanilide derivative of formula I [R1 is a C4-18 alkyl; R2 is H, methyl or ethyl; R3 is a halogen, C1-5 alkyl, -OY (Y is an alkyl), -SOnY or dimethylamino; R4 and R5 are each H, an alkyl, -(CH2)m-Z- [Z is -OCH3, -SOqCH3 or -N(CH3)2; m is 2-4]; X is O, -OCH2-, -SOp-, etc.; n, p and q are each 0-2].
EXAMPLE: N-[2-methylthio-5-(2-methoxyethylaminocarbonyl)]phenyl-4- decyloxybenzamide.
USE: Anti-atherosclerotic agents.
PROCESS: An aniline of formula II is reacted with a compound of formula III (Z1 is a halogen or alkoxycarbonyloxy) or an anhydride of formula IV to give the compound of formula I.
