NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [R1 is formula II (A1 and A2 are C or N; R3 and R4 are H, hydroxyl group, lower alkoxy, amino, etc.), formula III (A3 is O, S or NH), etc.; n is an integer 1W5; R5 and R6 are H, hydroxyl group or lower alkoxy] and a salt thereof.

EXAMPLE: 2-(Piperonylthio)benzodioxazole.

USE: A medicine and compound useful for preventing and treating hepatopathy.

PREPARATION: A thiol compound expressed by the formula R1-SM (M is H or alkali metal) or a thiolate compound which is an alkali metal substitution product thereof is reacted with a (substituted) benzodioxazolyl lower alkyl halide or sulfonate expressed by formula IV (X1 is halogen or lower alkylsulfonyloxy, etc.) to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
