Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I [R1 is H, halogen or alkyl; R2 is H, alkyl, halogen, alkoxyl, phenoxy, alkylthio, amino or phthalimido; R3 is a group of formula II (X is H, halogen, nitro or alkoxyl) or formula III (Y is O or S); R4 is alkyl, or (substituted) phenyl].
EXAMPLE: 1-(p-Chlorophenyl)-3-methylthio-4-phenylazetidin-2-one.
USE: An agricultural and horticultural germicide useful as a control agent against blast, helminthosporium leaf spot and sheath blight of rice plants, late blight of tomatoes and powdery mildew of cucumbers.
PROCESS: The titled compound of formula I is prepared by any of the three reaction formulas.
