PURPOSE: To provide a brake provided with a shaft having the shortest length while solving a problem of excessive torque applied to the brake.
CONSTITUTION: In a bevel gear speed reducer provided with a wet type multiple disk clutch for connecting or disconnecting an input shaft to or from a driven member, a brake is disposed in a cartridge 3 having a hole, through which oil is supplied to the clutch. The brake is incorporated inside the cartridge 3 having the hole, through which oil is supplied to the clutch. With the bevel gear speed reducer provided with the clutch, a high speed shaft realizes braking at low torque. Furthermore, since the brake is incorporated inside the cartridge, it is possible to make a length of the shaft short and to make the speed reducer compact as a whole.
