Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery, in which the rate of utilizing its positive electrode, whose active material is complex nickel hydroxide particles obtained when a cobalt film is formed over the surfaces of nickel hydroxide particles, is enhanced by suppressing or preventing oxidation of metal cobalt or cobalt compounds during preservation of the complex nickel hydroxide particles so that the cobalt main body can exhibit its characteristics.
SOLUTION: This alkaline storage battery includes a positive electrode 2 so constructed that a paste containing a positive active material is packed in a porous metal; a negative electrode 4; and an alkaline electrolyte. The positive active material is composed of complex nickel hydroxide particles obtained when a cobalt film containing an oxidation inhibitor and made of at least one kind selected from metal cobalt and cobalt compounds is formed over the surfaces of nickel hydroxide particles.
