Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the above biaxially oriented film for a magnetic recording medium superior in sliding properties and further wear resistance, by a method wherein the title film is obtained by mixing a specific quantity of thermoplastic polyester resin and polyamide resin containing a mxylylene group.

CONSTITUTION: This biaxially oriented film for a magnetic recording medium is a resin mixture obtained by mixing up 90-99.99 pts.wt. thermoplastic polyester resin and 10-0.01 pts.wt. polyamide resin containing a mxylylene group with each other. This biaxially oriented film for a magnetic recording medium possesses structure where the polyamide resin containing the mxylylene group is dispersed by forming a fine phase, that is, a particulate in thermoplastic polyester. Therefore, though the surface of the film is smooth, it has fine unevenness and is superior in sliding properties. Furthermore, since affinity between the thernoplastic polyester resin and polyamide resin containing mxylylene is favorable, a void is hard to generate on the circumference of the particulate and the film is superior in wear resistance.
