Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method for reinforcing an optical fiber which can suppress the variation of characteristics due to external factors of temp. variation, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A reinforcing member 2 is nearly semicircular in the cross-section and a groove is formed along the longitudinal direction. A coated optical fiber 1 is housed in the groove and is stuck with an adhesive 4 in the vicinity of both edge parts. A central part of a naked fiber part 1a does not come into contact with the inner surface of the groove or the cap 3. The cap 3 or 3' is fixed on the central part where the adhesive 4 is not present extending over a part of the adhesive 4. The naked fiber part 1a if sealed by the cap 3 and entering of water or moisture is prevented.
