PURPOSE: To obtain the title binder of improved moisture resistance by copolymerization between a sulfonate group-contg. unsaturated monomer, (meth) acrylic alkyl ester and/or alkoxyalkyl ester and a monomer of the formula.
CONSTITUTION: A copolymerization is carried out in an aqueous medium in the presence of a polymerization initiator between (A) 0.5-10.0wt.% of a sulfonate group-contg. unsaturated monomer, (B) 40.0-90.0wt.% of a 1-8C alkyl group- contg. (meth)acrylic alkyl ester and/or 1-4C alkylene group-contg. (meth)acrylic alkoxyalkyl ester, and (C) 5.5-50.0wt.% of a monomer of the formula (R1 is H or methyl; R2 is 1-4C alkyl or phenyl; n is >2). The resulting system is neutralized with NH3 or an organic amine, thus giving the objective water base binder containing a copolymer with a weight-average molecular weight of 50000-500000. 100wt.% of ceramic powder is incorporated with 0.3-25.0wt.%, on a solid basis, of the present binder and molding auxiliaries such as water-soluble plasticizer and dispersant, followed by molding to obtain a ceramic form.
