To obtain a composition that has markedly high hardness, manifests markedly swift disintegration rate and can form tablets or the like having good properties by using directly compressable starch flour.

This composition comprises (A) non-birefringent starch granules that are partially swollen and have a certain level of smoothness, (B) non- swollen and bire-fringent granules and (C) at least one of other excipients in which the ratios of the component B to the component A is 1/5-5/1. The ratio of the directly compressable starch to the excipient is preferably 1/10-10/1. In a preferred embodiment, this composition additionally 0.01-80 wt.% of active ingredients, for example, pharmacologically active substances, perfumes, sweeteners, detergents or the like. The starch to be used here has an average particle size of ≥50 μm and a moist content of 3-15%. This composition can be used for giving tablets and other unit drug forms of good qualities.
