To produce a binder for offset printing ink which can easily produce an ink having setting properties and dryability hardly attainable by a conventional soy bean oil ink and equal to or higher than those of a conventional ink, which reduces disadvantages affecting the properties, such as stability, required of ink or varnish, and which can reduce the amount of chemical substances suspected to have an incretion disturbance action as announced by Environment Agency or can dispense with the use of such chemical substances and to obtain an offset printing ink using the same.
This binder is prepared from (a) a rosin-modified phenol resin prepared by using a phenol having a 4C or lower alkyl group and/or phenol as the phenol component and (b) soy bean oil. The offset printing ink is prepared by using the binder.
