To provide an electrode for a secondary battery having a mixture layer that is formed homogeneously, and having excellent electrode swelling properties and excellent flexibility, and to provide a binder resin for the electrode for the secondary battery with excellent battery characteristics.

A binder resin for an electrode for a secondary battery contains a polymer obtained by copolymerization of a vinyl cyanide-based monomer that is a main component, and a monomer with two or more polymerizable functional groups. The content of the vinyl cyanide-based monomer is higher than or equal to 50 mass% with respect to all the monomers constituting the polymer, and the content of the monomer with two or more polymerizable functional groups is in the range of 0.001 to 10 mass% with respect to all the monomers constituting the polymer.
