Abstract:

To provide a binder resin for a friction material, which enables high-temperature short-time thermoforming and can eliminate a post-curing step and suppress the generation of a thermally decomposed component at molding; and to provide a friction material using the binder resin.

The binder resin for the friction material comprises: polybenzoxazine resins obtained by reaction of an aminophenol compound with formaldehydes; and polybenzoxazine resins obtained by reaction of a bifunctional phenol compound and a bifunctional amine compound with formaldehydes, and the friction material is obtained with the use of these binder resins.
