PURPOSE: To obtain a binder consisting of a specific PVA-based aqueous emulsion and capable of providing impregnated paper having excellent mechanical stability and miscibility with various additives as well as sufficient water resistance and a nonwoven product having sufficient wet strength.
CONSTITUTION: This binder contains a modified PVA containing 1-10mol% of ≤4C α-olefin unit as a dispersant and a (co)polymer of an ethylenic unsaturated monomer as a dispersoid. The modified PVA is generally obtained by saponifying a (co)polymer of a vinyl ester with an α-olefin and vinyl acetate is preferably used as the vinyl ester and ethylene is preferably used as the α-olefin. A vinyl ester, etc., is preferably used as the ethylenic unsaturated monomer. The modified PVA is preferably used in an amount of 2-20 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the ethylenic unsaturated (co)polymer.
