To provide a binding apparatus which prints data, such as the contents of an article to be bound, on a binding strap to allow the visual recognition of a printing status.

The binding apparatus A fastens the binding strap St around the coiled article to bind up the article. The binding apparatus A includes a strap chute 1 which forms an annular space around the article, through which space the strap St passes, and guides and supplies the strap St to cause the strap St to circle around the periphery of the article, an exposure means 15 which allows a part of the outer peripheral surface of the strap St to be exposed to laser light, positioning units 16, 20 which put the strap St at a given position, and a laser printer 7 which is so disposed as to direct a laser light emission outlet toward the part of the outer peripheral surface of the strap St that is exposed for laser printing on the strap St.
