To form a twist with a sufficient binding strength in binding a plurality of long material.
In binding a plurality of long materials using a press and twist type long material binding machine, a lifter 5 is used. The lifter 5 is provided on its top face with a notch comprising two inclining faces 7, 8 which are in parallel in the transport direction (the direction of the white arrow) of long materials (not shown) and a curved part 9 continuously formed from each of the inclining faces between the inclining faces. The plane angle θ between the two faces 7, 8 is an acute angle, and the face 7 and the face 8 are asymmetric in the vertical direction relative to the cross section perpendicular in the transport direction of the material. The wire twist head 4 of the binding machine is provided at a position corresponding to the curved part 9 of the lifter 5.
