To efficiently obtain a bio-adsorbent by hydrolyzing biomass by a phosphoric acid soln. when the bio-adsorbent for heavy metals is prepared and removing an oil soluble substance by butanol and subsequently making the hydrolysate alkaline to remove a soluble substance by lower alcohol.
When a bio-adsorbent for heavy metals containing polyamino acid sodium phosphate prepared from bacterial biomass using the genus Aspergillus or Micrococcus as a main component is prepared, at first, biomass is hydrolyzed by a 0.5-5.07% phosphoric a cid soln. and, thereafter, an oil soluble substance is removed by butanol or n-hexane. Next, the hydrolysate is made alkaline by the reaction with a 1-40% sodium hydroxide or sodium bicarbonate soln. and a soluble substance is removed by lower alcohol and the residue is filtered to be subjected to drying treatment. At this time, as lower alcohol, pref., methanol, ethanol or a mixture of them is used.
