Title:
BIODEGRADABLE FABRIC SOFTENER DERIVED FROM ASPARTIC ACID OR GLUTAMIC ACID
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH04289271
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a fabric softener comprising a specific cationic nitrogen compound prepared from an unsaturaled dicarboxylic acid ester and an amine, capable of imparting excellent flexibility to fibers during a rinsing cycle and having biodegradability.

CONSTITUTION: This stable aqueous dispersion for use as a fabric softener comprises a cationic amino compound [e.g. dimethyldi(hydrogenated tallow) aspartate] derived from an aliphatic aminodicarboxylic acid and represented by the formula ((n) is 1 or 2; R1 and R2 are each H, an alkyl or an alkenyl; R3 and R4 are each an alkyl or an alkenyl; at least two of R1 to R4 each contain 8-24 carbon atoms and at least one of R1 to R4 each contains 1-4 carbon atoms when nexther of R1 and R2 is H; A- is a water-soluble organic Broensted acid) in which the acid is present in a larger amount than the equivalent amount of the nitrogen compound, e.g. an equivalent amount of 2 times. The aqueous dispersion is added into a rinsing cycle to soften fibers. A compound based on aspartic acid can be exemplified as a preferred example of the nitrogen compound and citric acid can be exemplified as the anion A thereof. The softener has no toxicity.
