Abstract:

To provide a bioinformatics method for identifying and isolating proteins having MSCRAMM(R) like character, originated from Gram positive bacteria, e.g. bacteria belonging to the genus Enterococcus, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus and Bacillus, and also capable of being utilized for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases caused by the Gram positive bacteria.

This method for identifying MSCRAMM(R) proteins having a putative LPXTG cell wall-sorting signal on C-terminal region and having the proteins and the LPXTG-anchored cell wall proteins and other proteins having structural similarities from an amino acid sequence information is provided. The antibodies useful for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of the infectious diseases caused by the Gram positive bacteria are produced by using the identified and isolated MSCRAMM(R) proteins and their immunogenic regions.
