Abstract:

To provide trans carotenoid salt compounds, methods for making them, methods for water-solubilizing them, and uses thereof.

Provided are compounds formed by substituting both ends of trans carotenoid with soluble groups, represented by the specified formula as an example, excluding trans sodium crocetinate (TSC) and norbixinates. These compounds are useful in improving diffusivity of oxygen between red blood cells and body tissues in mammals including humans.
