PURPOSE: To obtain the UV absorbers useful for increase in stability of magenta, cyan and yellow layers of photographic materials, and for photostabilization in ink and recording materials for ink-jet printing.

CONSTITUTION: Compounds of formula I [R1 is the formulae II-V (R5 is H or CH3; R6 is H or 1-16C alkyl; R7 is 1-14C alkyl or phenyl; R8 is H, 1-14C alkyl, phenyl or 1-4C alkylphenol; (l) is 0-16; (n) is 1-16); R2 is H, OH, 1-12C alkyl, F or Cl; R3 is H, OR9 (R9 is 1-4C alkyl), 1-12C alkyl, F or Cl; R4 is H, OR9 1-12C alkyl, F, Cl, or OR1 when R2 is OH], such as 2-phenyl-4,6-bis[2- hydroxy-4-{3'-(methoxyheptaethoxy)-2'-hydroxypropoxy}-phenyl]-1,3,5-triazine are provided. A compd. of formula I wherein R1 is formula III (R5 is H) is obtained by reacting bis resorcinyl triazine with a compd. of the formula VI.
