PURPOSE: To provide a novel compound useful 0as an electric charge-generating material excellent in electric charge-generating efficiency.

CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula I (R1 and R2 are each 0 or S; R3 and R4 are each H, alkyl or aryl; (m) and (n) are each 0-2; Cp1 and Cp2 are each coupler residue). The present compound can be obtained by reaction of a diazo compound of formula II (R5 and R6 are each halogen or BF4) with a coupler in a solvent (e.g. dimethylformamide) in the presence of a base (e.g. sodium hydroxide) at ca.20°C for 3-5hr. The present compound, when used as an electric charge-generating material, is highly sensitive in the visible ray region, thus providing high-performance devices; and being also usable for coloring pigments, organic photosensitizers, solar cells, photoelectric transfer elements, optical information memorizing elements, etc.
