EXAMPLE: (1α,1β,3α)-9-[2,3-bis(hydroxymethyl)cyclobutyl]guanine.
USE: An antiviral agent.
PROCESS: A novel substance represented by formula VIII (wherein P is a hydroxyl protective group and X is an elimination group) and a compd. represented by formula R1H or a protected compd. thereof are reacted and the hydroxyl protective group is eliminated to obtain the compd. represented by the formula I.
