Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a bismuth oxycarbonate powder having a specified grain size distribution and excellent in dispersibility by neutralizing an aq. soln. of a bismuth salt with an alkali to precipitate bismuth hydroxide and then adding a carbonate salt and stirring.
SOLUTION: The aq. soln. of the bismuth salt (e.g. bismuth chloride) is neutralized with the alkali (e.g. aqueous ammonia) to form a precipitate containing the bismuth hydroxide under a condition of ≥pH5 at 25-40°C liq. temp. Then, the carbonate (e.g. ammonium carbonate) is added to a soln. containing this precipitate, the soln. in stirred for 15min, and the obtained precipitate is filtered and dried to produce the bismuth oxycarbonate powder. In this way, the bismuth oxycarbonaste powder in which a 50% cumulative grain size of a grain size distribution is within a range of 0.1-3μm, a 90% cumulative grain size is ≤10μm and a specific surface area is ≥10m2/g is obtained. The obtained bismuth oxycarbonate powder is suitable for an electroceramic material, an optical material, etc.
