Abstract:
PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain a block copolymer which acts as a polymeric surfactant, a dispersant, an emulsifier, an antistatic agent, etc., in a high yield by subjecting two specific polymers to transesterification in a specified molar ratio and treating the resultant polymer under specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: A polymer of formula I [wherein R1 is 1-22C alkyl (except t-butyl), perfluoroalkyl, or dialkylaminoalkyl; R3 is a group of a chain-adjusting agent having no active hydrogen atom; and m is 3 or higher) is subjected to transesterification with a polymer of formula II [wherein R2 is-(CH2)p-(wherein p is 2-6); and n is 3 or higher] in a molar ratio of (1.1/1)-(1.0/1) in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. an alkyl titanate); and the resultant polymer of formula III is converted into a block copolymer at 60°C or higher in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. p-tolenesulfonic acid) or at 160°C or higher in the absence of a catalyst while separating isobutylene and is converted into an alkali metal salt, etc., thus giving the objective block copolymer of formula IV (wherein x is a cation).
