Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent a tapping nozzle from being clogged even if the broken pieces of the structural member of a melting furnace or the unmelted raw material are mixed in molten glass.
CONSTITUTION: A block 10 consists wholly of the material resistant to the heat and corrosion of molten glass, a hole 12 having a diameter smaller than the inner diameter of a tapping nozzle and piercing the block is formed, and the top 10a of the block is projected from the surface of a hearth. For example, the block has a truncated biconical outline, about three holes are formed, and about three tapping grooves are formed in direction of the generatrix. The block is used to prevent the clogging of the nozzle and positioned above the nozzle piercing the hearth of a melting furnace. The lower part of the block is engaged with the hearth above the nozzle, and a space is preferably formed at the lower part at that time.
