To provide a blood pump system with a blood clot detecting function capable of detecting a blood clot without the need of a large-scale apparatus like a laser apparatus or an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus (utilization of doppler displacement).
First and second connection pipes 3 and 4 connected to the entrance and exit of a blood pump 2 are provided with first and second ultrasonic transducers 7 and 8, and first and second reception RF signals indicating reflected waves (echoes) from the blood clot passing through the part are obtained. The first and second reception RF signals are sent to the first and second transmission/reception parts 25a and 25b of a controller 5, and then detected and logarithmically compressed by first and second signal processing parts 26a and 26b. Then, the number of blood clots exceeding a prescribed threshold is measured respectively by first and second blood clot counting parts 27a and 27b, and a determination part 28 determines whether or not the blood clot is generated in the blood pump on the basis of the measured result.
