Abstract:

PURPOSE: An agent for decreasing blood viscosity containing a specific compound as an active ingredient.

CONSTITUTION: An agent for decreasing blood viscosity containing, as an active ingredient, a compound expressed by formula I (R represents H, methyl or acetyl; X represents H3C-N, formula IIWIV, etc.) (example; tetrandrine, fangchinoline, tetrantrine 2'-N-β-oxide, tetrantrine 2'-N-α-oxide, etc.). For obtaining the compound, for example, Stephania tetrandra is extracted with water and/or alcohols and the solvent is removed from an extract to obtain a residue, which is partitioned between water or a mixed solvent of water with alcohols and an organic solvent such as n-hexane, etc., to remove a fat- soluble component transferred to the organic solvent. Then the residue is dissolved in aqueous ammonia of pH 9 and extracted with chloroform to obtain an aqueous ammonia extract and a chloroform extract. Then the latter is subjected to column chromatography using water, etc., as an elution solvent, followed by fractionation with this layer chromatography.
