To provide a blue colored composition for color filters using ε-phthalocyanine pigment particles which are finer than particles produced with a conventional kneader, and satisfying a high contrast ratio required by color filters, and to provide a color filter having a higher contrast ratio than a conventional one.

The blue colored composition for color filters contains a pigment carrier comprising a transparent resin, a precursor thereof or a mixture of those and a pigment, wherein the pigment is an ε-phthalocyanine pigment obtained by kneading a kneaded mixture comprising α-phthalocyanine, ε-phthalocyanine, a water-soluble inorganic salt and a water-soluble organic solvent by means of a planetary mixer in which a plurality of blades make sun-and-planet motion. The color filter has filter segments formed using the blue colored composition for color filters.
