Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a body color-improving agent comprising Eucommia ulmoides and having an action for inhibiting the production of melanine pigments on the body surface of a cultured fish or promoting the degradation of the melanine pigments to allow the body color to approach the natural color.

CONSTITUTION: A body color-improving agent for a cultured fish comprises Eucommia ulmoides, and a method for improving the body color of the cultured fish comprises using the Eucommia ulmoides to improve the body color. The 'Eucommia ulmoides' includes the barks, leaves and/or dried barks of the Eucommia ulmoides, and is used in the form of their powder, aqueous extract or dried aqueous extract, preferably the dried leaf powder of the Eucommia ulmoides. Thereby, the color of a cultured fish including Pagrus major and having a problem comprising the blackening of the body color can be allowed to resemble the body color of a natural fish.
